The days before your surgery
In the days leading up to your surgery, please direct any specific
questions about your procedure to your surgeon. A day or two before
surgery, a nurse from the Surgery Center will call you to confirm your
surgery time and give you instructions. If you feel it may be difficult to
follow any of these instructions, please talk about your concerns with the
nurse. The instructions are for your benefit, safety and comfort. If you
are unable to follow them, your procedure may need to be rescheduled.
Unless you are told otherwise, the instructions are:
- Do not eat or drink anything, including water, after midnight the night before your surgery, unless instructed otherwise. Tell your surgeon if you normally take medication during this time so he/she can make the proper adjustments.
- Arrange for a ride home. A responsible adult MUST pick you up and accompany you home — you will not be allowed to drive yourself or use public transportation.
- Call the Surgery Center and give us the name and telephone number of the individual who will take you home. We may need to contact that person before your discharge.
- Call your surgeon immediately if you experience any changes in your health. These changes might include a sore throat, severe cold or fever.
- Minors (under age 18) must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
The day of your surgery
To help your visit go as smoothly as possible, there are some simple instructions to follow on the day of your surgery. Unless told otherwise these instructions are:
