Services
But the Breast Care Center at Bayshore has more than just good looks. You can take comfort in the fact that you'll benefit from some of the latest technology in women's health.
The Breast Care Center at Bayshore provides the following services:
| |
Mammography
A type of low-dose x-ray that creates an image of the
breast, it often can detect cancer before a lump can be felt |
| |
|
Screening Mammography
Low-dose x-ray
imaging of the breast that is used to detect breast changes in women
who have no signs or symptoms of breast cancer. |
| |
|
Diagnostic Mammography
Low-dose
x-ray imaging of the breast that is used to diagnose the cause of
unusual breast changes, such as a lump, pain, thickening, or change
in breast size or shape. It's also used to evaluate changes detected
on a screening mammogram. It takes longer than a screening mammogram
because it involves more x-rays to obtain views from several angles.
|
| |
Ultrasound
A diagnostic test that uses sound waves to visualize soft tissue. Ultrasound imaging of the breast is used to distinguish between solid tumors and fluid-filled cysts, as well as to evaluate lumps that are hard to see on a mammogram.
|
| |
Stereotactic and ultrasound-guided breast biopsy
A procedure in which a sample of a suspicious growth in the breast is removed and examined. Stereotactic biopsies use a computer and scanning devices to create three-dimensional digital images to locate the abnormal area. The Breast Care Center at Bayshore uses one of the newest techniques in the field, the Mammotome Breast Biopsy System, a minimally invasive procedure that allows doctors to biopsy suspicious tissue through a tiny incision, in less than an hour with no stitches and an immediate recovery.
|
| |
Bone Densitometry
A test that measures bone mineral density to help physicians make a diagnosis about your bone status and possible fracture risk. It is used in diagnosing osteoporosis.
|
In addition, such services as ultrasound and bone densitometry will be available on the state-of-the-art Picture Archiving Communication System (PACS), an image delivery system that eliminates film and provides digital images that are viewed on very high-quality computer screens.
It's all part of Bayshore's commitment to provide the latest in healthcare services to the community.
Respect
At the Breast Care Center at Bayshore Community Hospital, we respect your needs, whether it is for privacy, time, or simply answers to your questions.

Insurance information
We participate with most insurance carriers.
You will need a prescription from your physician for all of our procedures.
As always, check with your physician's office and insurance company for pretesting requirements such as pre-certifications or referrals as they may take time to prepare prior to your appointment. Bring your insurance card and prescription with you to ensure your test can be performed the day of your visit.
Prior to your appointment...
If this is your first mammography at Bayshore, please arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment time to allow time to register. Remember to bring your prescription and insurance cards.
Bring any prior mammograms or breast ultrasound examinations performed at another facility to improve accuracy and to provide you with the best quality of care possible.
Do not schedule your mammogram for the week before your period if your breasts are unusually tender during this time. The best time is one week following your period. Always inform your doctor or mammography technologists if there is any possibility you are pregnant.
The American Cancer Society also recommends:
- Do not wear deodorant, talcum powder or lotion under your arms or on your breasts on the day of your exam. They can appear on the X-ray film as calcium spots.
- Describe any breast symptoms or problems to the technologist performing the exam.
- Ask when your results will be available; do not assume the results are normal if you do
